Our firm has navigated through many legal battles on behalf of clients contending with seized shipments of e-cigarettes. The recent news release issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) marks the first time we have seen a joint effort from the agencies regarding vapor products.
In a joint federal operation at the Los Angeles International Airport, the agencies announced the seizure of approximately 1.4 million units of unauthorized e-cigarette products, including brands such as Elf Bar. The estimated retail value of the seized products was said to be more than $18 million.
During this three-day operation, shipments containing illegal e-cigarettes were specifically targeted, focusing also on brands popular among youth. FDA Commissioner, Dr. Robert M. Califf emphasized the agency’s commitment to preventing the flow of illegal e-cigarettes into the United States, particularly those appealing to younger demographics.
